“Suran Mein Ras Tum Ho” — A Musical Homage to the Timeless Legacy of Pandit C. R. Vyas

As the music world marks the 101st birth anniversary of the legendary vocalist and composer Padma Bhushan Pandit C. R. Vyas, Bengaluru will pay tribute to his enduring legacy through a special concert titled “Suran Mein Ras Tum Ho – Bandishes of Pandit C. R. Vyas.” The event will be held on Saturday, 8 November 2025, at 7.00 PM at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Malleswaram, as part of the Sri K. K. Murthy Memorial Music Festival – 2025.

Pandit Chintaman Raghunath Vyas (1924–2002) was one of the towering figures of Hindustani classical music in the 20th century — a scholar, composer, and teacher whose life was devoted to nurturing the soul of raga. Trained in the Kirana, Gwalior, and Agra gharanas, he created over 200 original bandishes under the pen name Gunijaan. Each composition reflected his profound insight into melody, poetry, and philosophy — touching on devotion, spirituality, human emotion, nature, and love. His music continues to live on through his disciples and admirers across generations.

In “Suran Mein Ras Tum Ho”, select bandishes of Pandit Vyas will be brought to life by acclaimed vocalists Pandit Suresh Bapat, Anuja Zokarkar, Noopur Gadgil, and Kedar Kelkar, accompanied by Ravindra Yavagal on tabla, Vyas Murthy Katti on harmonium, and the students of Suresh Bapat as chorus singers.

Adding a deeply personal dimension to the evening, Shashi Vyas — son of the maestro and Founder–Director of Pancham Nishad — will be the Content Narrator, sharing stories, reflections, and memories that bring alive the creative world of his late father.

Presented by JSW and Pancham Nishad, this concert is more than a performance — it is an offering of gratitude, a celebration of a life steeped in music, and a reminder that true art never fades; it only finds new voices to carry it forward.
